even if he wanted to, p.p. voltron couldn't deny
his carribean roots: his djing and production have
ever since drawn influences from the heavy basslines
of ragga and dub, but today also include references
to soul and r'n'b. always in search for those notorious
sexy vibes he loves so much, it was an obvious choice
to include the more musical side of things.
his open minded approach to dnb allows him to ignore
any kind of political or regional choice in what he
plays, be it national (meaning the uk as it's where
the majority of releases still come from) or international.
if the vibe of a tune suits him, he doesn't care about
status or origin of the people behind it.
his personal as well as musical development over
a decade, combined with talent and an enthusiasm boarding
on self destruction, have taught him to read his audience
accurately as a dj and keep the dancefloor bubbling
all night long.
having grown up and into the music alongside his
friends dj toon and mad marshal, it was only a matter
of time until the local d'n'b-brand "last twisting
jungle warriors", or in short, the ltjw-crew,
was founded. the name may be contestant for this week's
highest entry into the charts of "well tacky
crew names", but once you're christened, it's
hard not to stick with it...
drum and bass is the central force in pp voltrons
life: not only does he produce music under several
different monikers (boogieman collective, twisting
lion, ste. luce), he also runs the labels boogieman
records (in conjunction with mad marshal and dj toon)
and redirect records (in conjunction with rough j),
plus his own new project, soulsurfin' music, which
concentrates on the more musical end of the spectrum.
boogieman, founded back in 1999 with his mates toon
and mad marshal, has so far seen the most releases,
including various collaborations with vocalists from
the carribean and has also scored a number of hits,
with boom 005 and 006 selling out and calling for
immediate represses.
besides promoting parties with the crew, he runs
several residencies in the clubs of his home town,
has been a member of the first local dnb radioshow
for three years, and has played all over switzerland
and europe (barcelona, berlin, freiburg, mulhouse
etc) alongside most keyplayers of the scene.
